the long scar on his face extends onto his torso; he was attacked from behind while looking back. there's a lot of different versions of what exactly happened, depending on when you ask him, but the only consistent details are that he got it decades ago while out in rome with a colleague - and he returned alone.
his hair is like that because he has a habit of slicking it back right out of the shower then just leaving it alone, and since his hair is a bit wavy there's always a little that dries out of place.
if you call him a necromancer he won't deny it, just smile and deflect. his use of black magic means he can prolong his life and age more slowly than most people - he draws on energy, a bit like a blood mage, and can control anything dead (mammals, plants, etc). he's probably closer to 80 or 100 years old but who knows. religiously devout but in a very self-serving way: justifies his use of occult magic by selective interpretation of scripture, for example. if you're involved with death and/or the occult somehow he'll be more likely to develop genuine respect for you.
has lived in italy long enough to mostly lose his accent from Somewhere Else and be fluent in italian as well as latin.
chainsmoker, uses drugs - mainly cocaine but also heroin, sometimes in combination. he just Does Not Give A Shit. usually has naloxone in a pocket somewhere. (also, if he's on the brink of organ failure at all times, when he dies his body will be useless. even his own death is something he can make into a dick move)
teaches theology classes. students respect him and fear him.
in the canon timeline fritz is trying to engage in espionage and joins the secret society in an attempt to find a way the mechanics of his immortality can be improved; they work together and have what fritz intended to be a one-night stand, but maurice's possessive tendencies lead him to do some digging and discover the truth about fritz's background. he blackmails fritz and they basically become frenemies with benefits. after a couple years of this the two of them survive a violent attack on the secret society and realize that they care about each other more deeply than either of them is willing to openly acknowledge. over time maurice learns to become less obviously homophobic, both to keep fritz around and because when you know everyone already thinks/knows you're dating a dude it starts being kind of embarassing to keep up the pretense. still, don't ever imply to his face that he's gay and/or in a committed relationship with a man unless you're looking for a fight.
mundane au, no powers. the biggest difference in this au is that he's come to terms with being gay, though he's still a misogynist and harbors some homophobic sentiments towards people who are "obviously" gay/effeminate. as unethical as always, though toned down a little because he's poor and doesn't want to get fired from his job lol. basically a burnout stuck in a dead-end job so he doesn't give much of a shit anymore and treats his classes as though he's teaching at college like he should've been. the kids like him well enough because of this since it makes them feel more mature, even if he has a reputation for being strict. most of his coworkers don't like him and don't understand why any of the kids do. he has tenure, since it's the 1990s and american high schools still did that then, though if he's gonna fuck his students then he needs to keep that on the down-low. it's not like he makes a habit out of it, but if a boy is gonna throw himself at him, then, well.... he also still does cocaine, just not as much. when he was 43 or so he had a relationship with a trans 21/22yo law student; the guy cruised him at a bar and maurice being maurice he was quickly obsessed with the young man. the guy was impressed enough with his sexual abilities (despite the erectile dysfunction) that the relationship lasted for an unexpected two years but ended horribly, mostly his own fault - escalating abuse, refusal to use a condom, you know the drill. now he has to pay child support because his ex kicked his ass in court.
fast-forward five years and felix is a 17yo student of his he catches working at a new gay bar - felix was disguising himself to get away with being underage and is doing sex work to save money towards college tuition. once maurice makes the connection between felix the annoying student with a puppy crush on him and blue jay the flirtatious stripper, he blackmails felix into giving him services for free because he's angry&heartbroken at being deceived by someone he thought was genuinely interested in him...and falls into a full-fledged relationship. of course, felix could ruin his life at any moment by telling someone about their relationship, but the boy's crush sure works in his favor. maurice intends on finding a way to make felix stop doing sex work so the boy can be his and his alone. oh and he's like 50 at this point btw. yeehaw
he's an inquisitor but otherwise your average priest in the middle ages (not a monk). can potentially be bought out by opium and/or a good fuck, depending on the circumstances. he's NOT a sodomite and is willing to eliminate anyone who says he is, but at the same time he's not too difficult to seduce because he's a virgin and gets flustered if the other person has an advantage somehow.
fritz is a jewish traveling doctor named frederick who takes up in the small village where mauricius is located. obviously the religion is a problem, but frederick is a skilled practitioner and once mauricius accidentally sees him bathing in a lake he can't put the doctor out of his mind. he only saw him from the waist up but dreams about sucking his dick and whips himself every time. it's very sexy. they have a tense, mostly-professional relationship and frederick introduces him to opium as a sleep aid. one day mauricius, turning his self-hatred outwards, reaches a breaking point and tries to kill frederick. this leads to the discovery frederick is immortal...and trans. frederick doms him into sex and the story goes from there uwu

this one is basically identical to canon except he has cat ears instead of human ears and a little tail like a bobcat. oh, and both sets of genitals, everyone does in this au. he's an omega who feels like he should've been born an alpha, and it's the dysphoria over this that contributes to him being a giant asshole (instead of the homophobia). will say transphobic things to people who choose to surgically transition into being a beta (which is the only way to be one in this 'verse) mostly out of envy because he feels like it's too late for him to consider anything like that. and it's not the same as being an alpha, so what's the point? if he discovers you're a beta who transitioned from alpha, oh boy
fritz is an omega who transitioned to a beta and practices medicine with a specialty in omegas, which is how he joins the secret society this time. the subterfuge here is that he makes a habit out of discreetly forcing cute young omegas into heats so he can personally help them through it (i.e. fuck them). fritz is brought on to replace the previous doctor who died, and maurice immediately dislikes him because unlike the previous doctor he's disinclined to just let the priest ignore his own health needs in order to maintain the pretense of being an alpha. they end up hating each other. unfortunately, maurice's name is similar to that of an omega fritz was planning on targeting and he accidentally gives maurice that omega's prescription for heat inducers; maurice can't read it and assumes it's stronger heat suppressants, which is what they'd been arguing about that made fritz frazzled enough to mix up the prescriptions. before long fritz has a frantic virgin omega on his hands, just as planned, but not the one he'd wanted....
no powers or immortality. fritz is an emergency room doctor who participates in a fight club because he thinks it'll "teach him how to be a man" and prove his masculinity to others. he's stealth trans and lies about the top surgery scars. one day a new guy joins the club he attends and manages to pin him, and he's almost groped so he taps out in a panic. the new guy is maurice, a closeted priest afraid to touch other men in the way he dreams about and desperate to prove he's a "real" man. he's a rough fighter but develops something of a reputation for lingering in strange ways. he doesn't like getting shirtless because he's self-conscious so fritz bullies him and he doesn't gold back trying to beat the shit out of this little twink that has the temerity to call him a fairy. they both subconsciously clock the other as a flavor of queer and it's very deliciously toxic.
but then they run into each other aboveground once or twice - first at the er, after maurice came in for a broken nose or another injury along those lines and fritz has no choice but to be his doctor, then at a wedding maurice officiates where fritz has been forced to attend in girl-mode and they recognize each other. in his own way maurice is sympathetic and takes fritz home with him when it starts raining and it's a long way home for the doctor. they talk, they smoke, they drink, they might engage in mutual handjobs (no homo). from there they start living together, simply out of convenience since it so happens that maurice's place isn't far from the hospital, but they still beat each other up at fight club and everything stays unspoken while maurice becomes more and more violent since trying to pretend this is all platonic is killing him. one day a fight goes way too far and he grievously injures fritz before being pulled off, and the ensuing avoidance forces maurice to do something even more drastic.... but things work out in the end uwu fritz is free to be a man with maurice and maurice is free to love a man with fritz. this is probably the sweetest/least-fucked-up au and it's still pretty fucked lmao

family of birth did not disapprove of his interest in blood magic because most of the maztican pantheon calls for blood sacrifices so it was culturally familiar and not taboo. however, the clan at large worshipped kiltzi, goddess of love, who did not call for blood sacrifices. (her priests were considered some of the most effective healers, and xipilli was studying with them before exile.) the clan elder looked down on individual practice of blood magic because he didn't want to be seen as diverting power from the gods and anger the gods who did demand blood sacrifice. he also didn't want to risk the clan losing local power if it got too small due to sacrificing people. so the clan elder leaned on xipilli's father, who was next in line to one day become elder, and got him to exile his son. this led to a huge fight in/with his family but the rest of his family sided with his father. humiliated, he left in the middle of the night and vowed to push his studies even further to include necromancy. blood and flesh are both the building blocks of life, and people who would reject that are just cowards. he chose a new name for himself and traveled across the continent and eventually got on a boat headed for the western coast of faerun (roughly the coast where the phandelver campaign takes place) but got shipwrecked and stranded on the island of nimbral, where he used gold and persuasion to convince mages there to let him study with them. nimbrali mages emphasized illusion magic and dreamweaving and had no forbidden schools. qa'siirdura did not master dreamweaving but was able to understand the mechanics behind it and other illusion magics, and his time spent studying blood magic/necromancy there let him learn some basic ruathlek. eventually he decided he wanted to go out and do some hands-on learning, so he took his leave of nimbral and continued on to faerun where he managed to encounter his current party. he decided to go along with them because adventurers meant a likely opportunity to put his learning into action. naturally curious, he was also intrigued by such a motley group and wanted to see what would happen the longer they got to stay together. but he doesn't want to reveal his knowledge of necromancy if he can help it because he knows it is looked upon poorly by many in faerun. while he wants to prove it can be used for good he doesn't want to be run out of town (as it were) before he can do so. his armor and face tattoo glows in the dark! he has a pet cat that is a reanimated mummy. he has black paw pads.qa'siirdura, khajit necromancer healer
